L’ adunata degli alpini is a commemorative event that takes place annually, on the second weekend of May,
in an italian city that changes each year.
Alpini are a special military force, founded in 1872, specialized in mountain warfare. They are the oldest active mountain infantry corps in the world, originally created to protect the northern borders of Italy with Austria-Hungary during World War I.
Each time the selected city experiences a peaceful invasion. This year, 480,000 people gathered in Pordenone, truly destabilizing the normal balance of the citizens. Central streets and outskirts were filled with camping tents, chemical toilets and improvised barbeques, radically transforming the appearance of a town not used to takeovers of this entity nor to the inefficiencies that this may cause. Despite this, what makes an Adunata different from similar italian political or religious manifestations, is the awakening of a sense of unity and attachment to the country, unlike any other occasion. Even if for some of the attendants it lasts just for the weekend. The Best Family fanzine was published by Bolo Paper and can be found here.
